Manchester City supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their team reach the last four of the Carabao Cup courtesy of a penalty shootout victory over Leicester City on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola’s men went into their clash with the Foxes off the back of thumping Tottenham 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, which stretched their winning Premier League run to 16 games and maintained their lead at the summit at 11 points. And the Citizens are now just two games away from a Wembley final as they edged past Claude Puel’s side on penalties in the East Midlands on Tuesday, with Jamie Vardy’s late penalty cancelling out Bernardo Silva’s opener for City to force extra-time, and then the shootout.
Consequently, there have been many thrilled Citizens fans in the Tavern in recent times, and there may be some more good news on the way if a recent report from The Guardian is anything to go by, which suggests that a deal for attacker Jesus Medina is close to completion.
The 20-year-old currently plays his trade in Paraguay with top-flight club Libertad, with whom he has scored two goals and laid on two assists in 14 games so far this season.
And having made his senior debut for Paraguay during the summer in their friendly clash with Mexico in July, it’s clear that the attacker has a bright future ahead of him, and recent reports suggest that City are on the verge of bringing the youngster to the Etihad Stadium.
And with many clubs around Europe reportedly wanting Medina, this imminent deal looks set to represent a huge coup for Guardiola and his side.
Landlord’s verdict: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been irresistible so far this season, and look well set to win major honours come the end of the season.
And talk recently has been about extending the Spaniard’s contract at the Etihad Stadium in a bid to build a ‘dynasty’ in the North West, and it appears that they are looking at that on the recruitment side as well as reports suggest that a deal to bring Jesus Medina to the club is imminent.
The 20-year-old currently plays his trade in Paraguay and made his senior debut for the national team earlier this year, and that many other sides on the continent were also thought to be in the race for the attacker, it seems that the future really is looking bright for City under Guardiola.
