AVB admits Tottenham unlikely to sign a striker

avb.jpgThere are groans of disappointment inside the Football Transfer Tavern following the latest quotes from manager Andre Villas-Boas regarding the clubs search for a striker, bought to us by sources at Sky Sports.

It is no secret Tottenham have been after a striker during this transfer window, but with just one day remaining AVB does not think the club have left themselves enough time to tie up any deals.

They have been linked with a host of names this month, with Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao, Celtic’s Gary Hooper and most recently David Villa of Barcelona all mentioned, although the Tottenham manager was quick to laugh off the latest rumour.

Villas-Boas also stated that he did not expect any players to leave before the transfer window closes on Thursday evening.

“David Villa? No, I don’t think so!” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports after the 1-1 draw with Norwich.

“At the moment I have told you that we are willing to take a risk on Jermain Defoe’s injury. Defoe played 90 minutes and played very well.

“No, I don’t think so [there will be any players leaving].”

Tottenham fans have grown accustomed to seeing players joining the club late on deadline day, and whether this is a bluff from the manager in order to distract other clubs away from their targets remains to be seen.

Tottenham fans, do you think this is a bluff from AVB? Will the club recruit a striker before the deadline? Let us know your thoughts below.
