The Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham are still eyeing up a move for a defensive midfielder, despite reports suggesting that Arsenal target, Yann M’Vila, snubbed Spurs.
They have suggested that the North London club are still looking in Ligue 1 to find their midfielder, and have scouted 24 year old Etienne Capoue from Toulouse.
The defensive midfielder was in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for last season and would be seen as a cheaper alternative to other target Yann M’Vila.
Villas-Boas is supposedly looking to strengthen this area of midfield with Parker set to miss the start of the season, and Livermore not being up to standard. This would only leave Sandro and injury-prone Huddlestone to fill this position.
But, Capoue has been known to play in defence too. This could justify his transfer as Nelsen and King have departed the team. Although the additions of Caulker and Vertonghen balance out the departures, Gallas’ lack of speed is something which could see him become out of favour with Villas-Boas’ high line.
Obviously, with Tottenham only having 1 striker with satisfactory experience in the Premier League, fans would be frustrated at the lack of transfer activity regarding the attacking section of the pitch.
But, with squad rotation under Redknapp being non-existent, it is important for AVB to build his own squad which he is confident in, and not to utilise the dead weight left behind from Harry’s managerial term if they want to qualify for the Champions League.Like what the TT have on offer?
