Finding somewhere to have a pre match pint in comfort, safety and perhaps some decent banter can often be somewhere between difficult and a naffin’ minefield. We here at the Tavern take the noble art of having a nice pint very seriously and consequently are generating a file of favoured watering holes.

Here’s our suggestions for this week’s game…
Don’t attempt to have a beer anywhere near the Boylen ground. Our experience of the area is that most pubs within spitting distance of the stadium are heavily populated by Home fans.
Obviously there are a approximately a bazillion bars you could head for. The route into this part of London is hardly short on watering holes.
Part housed in Liverpool Street station itself is Hamilton Hall.
This is an enormous pub. Massive high ceilings and although offering some seating and tables it has standing room inside and out for a good couple of hundred. This isn’t the worst pub in the world, the cellar tends to be well enough managed, but your are not going to get away from the fact it’s a railway station boozer and consequently has a passing trade vibe about it.
There is an upstairs bit and a good run of dining tables if you want to eat. The food is ok. You know, that fake home cooked, mass produced pub chain stuff. So if bangers ala mash is your bag, you’re in luck.
When the place got busy 10 years ago, The Gents became a corridor of p*ss and that tradition is still upheld to this very day.
