Tottenham Hotspur's transfer window has been almost completely non-existent so far this summer with not a single signing to report as of yet, but a recent report from a respected journalist suggests they have an ideal opportunity to secure the signature of Julian Weigl.

According to RMC Sport  journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Borussia Dortmund are set to complete the signing of Axel Witsel this summer for a fee worth 20 million euros - a deal which suggests Julian Weigl could be a realistic target to pursue in the final days of the transfer window.

With Mousa Dembele reportedly on his way out of the club, Weigl would represent a solid replacement for the Belgium international, although he is not famed for his playmaking ability quite like Tottenham's lynchpin.

Despite this, Tottenham would be foolish to miss out on an opportunity to sign a player of Weigl's calibre and potential to grow, especially considering Dortmund are willing to accept a fee of 50 million euros (£44.5 million) for his signature according to Bild.

The 22-year-old midfielder typically operates in a midfield anchor role where his high level of anticipation is put to good use, but his extensive range of passing and ability to bring the full-backs into play make him an all-round ball-playing midfielder, rather than just a destroyer.

No deal has yet been confirmed for Witsel as of yet but, based on the premise that he will eventually move to the Westfalenstadion, Spurs should prepare a sensational bid for Weigl which would represent a genuine statement of intent from a club who have been heavily criticised for their transfer policy this summer.
