After a fairly frustrating summer for Newcastle, Florian Lejeune's injury has put even more pressure on Mike Ashley to bring in some summer recruits before the transfer market closes next Wednesday.

Before the beginning of the transfer window, Newcastle desperately needed a striker to replace Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has now made his move to Fulham. Without the Serbian, Newcastle only have Ayoze Perez as the main option but are apparently closing in on Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto.

At the back, Newcastle pulled off an excellent deal to sign Fabian Schar who would've provided great competition for Jamaal Lascelles and Lejeune but with the latter's injury, the Magpies are in desperate need of a defender to step in for him.

According to Goal.com's Robin Bairner, Newcastle are now tracking Toulouse centre-back Christopher Jullien.

Benitez issued a worrying statement following the club's 4-0 loss to Braga where he urged the club to bring in more signings and admitted that the club wasn't doing well on or off the pitch.

The Breakdown

With Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar as the starting defensive pair, Newcastle could have one of the more underrated duos in the league.

Behind that, however, Newcastle don't have much that can step in and do a job, which is going to be crucial with Schar playing his first season in the league.

At 25, Jullien would be an ideal defender to step in for the Magpies. The defender played 30 times for Toulouse in the league and is experienced enough to add to the squad. Although the deal might seem a smart piece of business by the club, Robin Bairner admits that the defender will likely cost close to £9 million.
