Bad news confirmed for Arsenal as international break claims another injury victim

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting their side’s solid form to continue this weekend…

After a tough start to the campaign, the Gunners have done well to bounce back over the last few weeks, and with a game at Watford on the horizon this weekend, that run is expected to continue.

However, the game has been made far tougher with the news that Shkodran Mustafi is confirmed to be out of the game according to Sky Sports News.

The Gunners in the Transfer Tavern were fearing the worst when he went off injured for his country a few days ago, and now their worst fears have been realised.

It leaves Arsenal in a very tough spot, with Laurent Koscielny and Calum Chambers also unlikely to feature.

After a tough few months towards the end of last season, Mustafi has picked up his form again this season and has looked solid at the back. He’s not at his best yet, but he’s certainly getting there.

Arsene Wenger is going to have to employ all of his tactical know-how to manoeuvre out of this situation. With Arsenal typically utilising a formation with three central defenders this season, the boss is definitely short of options.

Landlord’s Verdict

It has been a tough week or so for Premier League clubs, with injuries during the break proving problematic. Romelu Lukaku of Man Utd and N’Golo Kante of Chelsea are two other players that have suffered injuries during the spell.

With a lack of defenders, Wenger could have to turn to a few more surprising team choices.

Nacho Monreal could play more centrally, whilst Rob Holding could also play. Per Mertesacker, who has looked good this season, may also come in.

It is certainly a cobbled-together defence, but it should be solid enough to get the job done. Mustafi’s absence is a blow, though, no doubt.
