The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with Benjamin Mendy this term…
The Frenchman has come in and plugged a gap that had proven problematic for the Citizens for a number of years, delivering a few stellar performances following his summer move.
However, just as quickly as his campaign had gotten underway, it seems to have come to a premature end, with Pep Guardiola revealing some very disappointing news.
Ahead of Man City’s game with Chelsea, Guardiola has confirmed that Mendy is set for an operation on an injury, and looks set to be out for a number of months as he recovers.

Mendy’s status has been uncertain all week long, with rumours of a long-term blow surfacing several days ago.
Now, though, Guardiola has confirmed just what fans were dreading. A semi-final Champions League return would place a comeback somewhere around April/May, meaning that Mendy’s season is likely at an end already.
It’s a crushing blow for the club, not least because so much was invested in his signing over the summer.
Mendy is the perfect defender for Man City. A lethal offensive full-back, he fits in with Guardiola’s philosophy perfectly, and so to lose him is very disappointing.
The timing of it is bad, too, with the Citizens set to take on Chelsea on Saturday. It’ll be a tough game, and it will be made even tougher by his absence.
Perhaps Guardiola needs to look at signing a replacement in January.
