The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are truly divided on the prospect of Arsene Wenger remaining at the club for the next two years, but a recent report from the Times has been met with unanimous anger in the pub…
According to the Times, the retention of Arsene Wenger has had no impact on the future of Arsenal’s key men – Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil – with the duo both still set on leaving the club. Sanchez, it is said, will look to move on this summer – whilst Mesut Ozil is reportedly looking to run down his contract and leave on a free, perhaps to allow himself to garner a huge wage packet at a new club.
Whichever way you spin it, there is no doubting just how much of a crushing blow this is for the Gunners. Ozil and Sanchez have been every bit as important as Wenger since they arrived, with the duo often carrying their side when moments have gotten tough in recent years. Certainly, it was no coincidence that Arsenal’s poor campaign aligned with Mesut Ozil’s struggles this season.
It will certainly be a tough situation to recover from for Wenger, with the blows coming thick and fast for the Frenchman. Indeed, on a day that fans should be celebrating – after securing the future of their manager – many in the pub are feeling very disappointed.
It isn’t all bad news for the Gunners, though, with Wenger reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for talented attacker Henry Onyekuru.
