The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty confident ahead of their upcoming clash with Crystal Palace…
The form of the Eagles has been very poor this season, whilst Chelsea have conversely impressed. Though a defeat to Man City has left fans disappointed, the Blues are still in a very good place at present.
However, Chelsea’s game against Crystal Palace may have been made far more difficult, at least if a report by the Mirror is to be believed. The Mirror reports that midfielder N’Golo Kante’s injury is slightly worse than first feared, with the Frenchman unlikely to feature for the next three weeks.
This is, of course, a massive blow for the Blues – with Kante an everpresent in the Chelsea first team this season.
Serving as the connecting force between the defence and the midfield, Kante is a crucial player for the Blues, and so it will be a massive loss for the Blues if this turns out to be true. With a Champions League game against Roma also on the horizon, it is frustrating for the Blues in that sense, too.
It marks the second Chelsea casualty of the last two weeks, with Alvaro Morata also suffering an injury against Man City. Unlike Kante, his status remains uncertain – and so it may have to wait until Antonio Conte’s press conference until we learn whether he will be fit.
Either way, a game without Kante will be more difficult for Chelsea.
This is a big problem for Chelsea, but it is one that the Blues should be able to solve.
Crystal Palace aren’t particularly proficient going forward, and so Kante’s defensive stability won’t be a necessity. With the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas available for Conte, the Italian should be able to manage this weekend.
Going forward, however, it could be more difficult.
