Bad news for Klopp: Liverpool unlikely to get their wish as concerning player news emerges

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty impressed with their side’s transfer business over the last year or so. The Reds have been able to land some top players, whilst, for the most part, they have managed to hold on to their most prized talents all the while.

Philippe Coutinho has been the only major departure for Jurgen Klopp’s men in recent times, and whilst that was certainly a blow, they look to have rebounded well. However, another significant player could be set to leave the club this summer, it seems.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool’s hopes of keeping Emre Can are said to be fading – with Juventus increasingly confident of landing him upon the expiry of his contract this summer. Indeed, though the Reds are said to be retaining hope that he could renew his terms at Anfield, a switch to Italy appears to be on the cards.

Can’s contract has been a long-standing topic of debate in the Transfer Tavern, with the German increasing in influence under Jurgen Klopp. Despite his rise in prominence, though, an agreement has yet to be reached to not only extend his contract, but also to offer him a much-deserved pay-rise. Now it could be too late for the Reds to turn the ship around.

Losing Can would be a massive blow. He has featured in 21 Premier League games this term, and he has formed a very useful and effective partnership with the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in the midfield.

Landlord’s Verdict

Can’s departure, which is now looking almost inevitable, will be a big loss for Liverpool. He’s a key player, and he won’t be easy to replace.

Of course, Naby Keita could be considered the replacement for the German, but nonetheless, it’s a blow given just how good Can can be on his day.

The lack of a transfer fee, given his pending contract expiry, is perhaps the most frustrating part of this deal, especially given that – according to Transfer Markt – can is worth £25.2 million. This will be a big financial loss.
