The Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern want one thing and one thing only from their business this summer, Virgil van Dijk.
The Southampton defender has been a regular on the rumour mills this summer and the Reds here in the Tavern were hopeful of a deal after reports last week claimed the Dutchman was ready to hand in a transfer request at St. Mary’s in order to force through his move to Merseyside.
However, according to the Saints’ local paper, the Daily Echo, the powers that be on the south coast have received no such indication from the 26-year-old, let alone a formal request.
Furthermore, not only have the Saints hierarchy had no request from the former Celtic man, they are confident they’ll be keeping him on the south coast this summer, after years of selling their top talent to the likes of Liverpool.
The landlord has warned fans of a red and white persuasion, however, that if their hero really is intent on leaving, it may well be beneficial to take the money and run while the valuation is still as high as £75m.
Saints and Liverpool fans we want to hear from you! Do you think the southerners will hold onto Van Dijk? Is he worth as much as £75m? Let us know…
