It has been a few days of celebration for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern. The Gunners shocked everyone in the pub by securing a win against Tottenham last weekend, with Arsene Wenger’s side dismantling their London rivals with relative ease. It was just the result they needed, and it has left the Arsenal faithful feeling jubilant.
The result isn’t the only thing improving the mood of the fans, though, with a recent report from the Mirror also serving to make things better in the red section of the pub. According to the Mirror, Arsenal have joined the race for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, with the Gunners viewing him as a potential replacement for Mesut Ozil.
What’s more, unfortunately for Man City – who are also said to be in the race – the Gunners have apparently made him their number one transfer target, meaning that they will go all out to sign him, which will, in turn, make life difficult for the Citizens.
He’d be a great option for at Arsenal, given that he offers a fantastic option in the middle of the park – a position in which the Gunners have little depth. Whether he’s a good replacement for Ozil, though, remains to be seen, with his playstyle differing from the German’s quite considerably.
That said, offering fantastic tackling, passing and running, he’d make a fantastic partner for Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park.
It looks set to be an all-out war amongst some of the top Premier League sides as many of them look to sign Goretzka, but Arsenal’s desire could give them an upper hand.
They’d be able to offer him regular football every week, which perhaps can’t be said were he to move to Man City.
Still, it won’t be easy for the club to get this deal done.
