For the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern, signing a few new defenders this summer is a priority…
Whilst the Citizens have often been a strong outfit going forward, at the back they have so often struggled, and this summer will see the likes of Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta leave the club upon the expiry of their current contracts.
Signing a few new defenders this summer, then, is something that will certainly be on Pep Guardiola’s mind. However, unfortunately for him, Man City may struggle to sign one defender in particular over the next few months.
According to the Mirror, Tottenham have raised the asking price of Kyle Walker up to £60 million, potentially pricing Man City out of a deal for the defender. It is noted that whilst Man City are keen, Tottenham are ready to hold out for a big fee for the defender, leaving many of the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern questioning whether Walker is worth it.
Of course, given how much money Man City have already spent this summer, the club would likely be able to afford the increased price, but they will have to question whether Walker is really worth that sort of money. A fantastic attacker, Walker’s defensive ability has come under scrutiny in recent years, and our landlord thinks that the Citizens may be able to find a better player for less elsewhere.
That being said, there is no doubting Walker’s qualities, so the Tottenham fans in the pub are hoping that the price will put any prospective buyers off.
