Bad news for Man Utd as Chelsea look to repay the favour after losing out on Lukaku

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still not very happy after their side missed out on Romelu Lukaku…

It doesn’t look like their club is quite over it, either, with Sky Sports reporting that Chelsea are hesitant to sell Nemanja Matic to Man Utd this summer after Jose Mourinho’s side beat them to the signing of Lukaku – with the Blues seemingly holding a grudge against their former employee.

Though it might seem petty from the Blues, you can certainly understand their frustrations. A deal to take Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge seemed like a foregone conclusion for much of the summer, and so it would have come as a huge blow to Antonio Conte to have missed out.

Nemanja Matic, of course, has been linked with a move to Man Utd over the last few weeks as Jose Mourinho looks to improve the midfield of his side. With Michael Carrick beginning to grow too old to start every week and Paul Pogba posing more of an offensive threat than anything else – it is clear that Man Utd need more defensive steel, and a move for Nemanja Matic made sense.

In many ways, Chelsea would be doing Man Utd a favour if they were to let Matic move to the club, with upgrading a rival not exactly a wise move – particularly given that Matic is likely to have interest from abroad. Given the circumstances, you can see why they are less open to this now.

That being said, Sky Sports report that Matic is still likely to leave if Tiemoue Bakayoko comes in – potentially leaving the door slightly ajar for Jose.
