The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were very excited to learn that their side had reportedly set their sights on one of Europe’s best attackers…
According to Sky Sports News earlier this week, the Red Devils had held preliminary talks regarding a potential switch for Bayern Munich attacker Robert Lewandowski, leaving supporters in dreamland.
However, their mood has been brought down quite dramatically today, with Manchester Evening News reporting that Bayern Munich have unequivocally denied any chance of a departure for the Polish striker. Citing a statement from the club, Munich are said to have noted that there have been no talks held, and should any club launch a personal move for the player, they will be at risk of legal action.
This would certainly seem to close the door on any prospective purchase of Lewandowski, with the German outfit clearly unwilling to sell. To be fair, that is with good reason, given that the Polish forward has been one of their best players in recent years. He scored 30 league goals last season, making him one of Europe’s most lethal forwards.
That being said, he would have really been a hit at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford would have gotten the opportunity to learn from one of Europe’s best, whilst the attacker would have undoubtedly made an impact in England with his lethal goalscoring pedigree.
It looks it is back to the drawing board for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern…
