The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t enjoying life too much at the moment. It’s been an awful few weeks for the Gunners, with loss-after-loss coming their way, and unfortunately for Arsene Wenger, things look to be getting even worse.
According to the Sun, Hector Bellerin is furious with Wenger after he was dropped for Arsenal’s clash with Brighton over the weekend, with the Spaniard apparently training to be involved in the lead-up to the game. He’s reportedly very concerned that he is being made a scapegoat for Arsenal’s recent form.
Though the reasoning behind his disappearance from the starting eleven remains unclear, it must be noted that Bellerin’s form has not been fantastic this season. The Spaniard has lacked his characteristic offensive drive, whilst – like many of his defensive teammates – he hasn’t looked great at the back. That being said, as the report notes, Arsenal as a collective have struggled, and so to view Bellerin as the sole reason, or even one of the main reasons, behind their form would be misguided.
Bellerin has been an important player for the Gunners this term, having made 28 starts in the English top flight.
Clearly highly valued by everybody at the Emirates, losing the defender would be a huge blow for the Gunners. His anger has come at a bad time, too, given Arsenal’s poor form. The last thing they need is further player dissent, but that’s seemingly exactly what Wenger has now got to deal with.
Arsenal need to hold on to Bellerin. Though the Spanish star hasn’t been at his best this season, he’s far from being their main problem.
That being said, angry players are only going to make Arsene Wenger’s situation worse, and so the Frenchman must resolve this situation.
Bellerin, though, may find it difficult to change his mind – and so it could be an interesting few months as a result, with his future looking increasingly uncertain.
