Balague: Man United man made private transfer admission

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the fine form of David De Gea this term. The Spaniard, as has become typical in recent years, has excelled between the sticks for the Red Devils, providing consistent, solid performances under Jose Mourinho.

In truth, he’s become quite the hero amongst our Old Trafford locals over the last couple of years, and so many are hoping that he remains at the club for the foreseeable future.

However, it appears as though there is, at least, a chance that that won’t be the case, owing to a recent comment made by Spanish football expert Guillem Ballague. Speaking in his latest Sky Sports Q&A (Timestamp: 12:34, 5th February 2018), Ballague has revealed that De Gea has recently said to his Spanish national team-mates that a Real Madrid transfer is on the horizon.

Ballague revealed: “De Gea actually told team-mates in the national side that he was going to Real Madrid, [but] as you’ve seen in the last couple of years, it’s not as easy as that”.

Of course, as Ballague notes, a move isn’t as simple as a player making a decision to leave his current club. But still, this is a rather significant development.

If nothing else, if Ballague’s comments are correct, this reaffirms the notion that De Gea does want a move to Real Madrid, even if it doesn’t suggest that a move is coming soon.

This update is sure to concern our resident Red Devils, at least until De Gea signs fresh terms at Old Trafford.

Landlord’s Verdict

Losing De Gea would be huge for Man Utd. He’s become a talisman-like figure over the last few years, and so it will be nearly impossible for them to replace him adequately.

That being said, he appears to want the switch, and Real Madrid themselves likely want to bring in a new keeper.

Man Utd won’t want to sell, of course not, but they may be forced into it soon if he publicises his supposed desires.
