Spurs were in the main, rather magnificent. This was largely down to no one doing what Tottenham players insist on routinely doing and acting the goat. They all turned up and they all put in good shifts. For the first time and perhaps not the last in this world cup year an ESPN commentator passed comment that some would wish ‘Gareth Bale was English’.
Bale bustled and burst through at every opportunity. His passing frequently resulted in chaos for Chelsea and even two men on him wasn’t the answer. Bentley had a good game and Modric demonstrated yet again why he’s one of the most important players to have worn a Tottenham shirt, certainly in my lifetime.
Former England Captain and serial untermensch John Terry was booed roundly from his first touch. His response was to play in an increasingly unsporting fashion but he finally won the Tottenham faithful round and earned cheers by getting himself sent off. Fabio Cappello really must be wondering what in the name of God people think he’s going to achieve in South Africa. If he pursues his course of not taking Michael Dawson with him he’ll have no one to blame but himself.
