Talk that Barcelona striker David Villa may be heading to the Premier League in the January transfer window has filled the Football Transfer Tavern in recent weeks but today Barcelona director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has denied reports that Villa will be leaving the club in January.
Villa who was out for six months with a broken leg, has failed to keep his place in the Barcelona first eleven since returning, fuelling talk of a move away from Spain when the window eventually opens in the New Year.
However those reports have been dismissed by the Barcelona official who told Sky Sports: “In January we will keep Villa and it is important to remember that Barcelona is a club that habitually does not accept offers for star players in January,”
“David is a player that brings goals and intensity to the team.
“Now he has recovered from a serious injury I believe that he is offering a good level on the field.
“It is normal that big players desire to play and this is perfect for the competition in the squad.”
Villa had been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks but it now appears that the Gunners may have to look elsewhere in the transfer market for a consistent goal scorer to supplement the likes of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud.
