The Football Transfer Tavern’s faithful have been left stunned with reports from the Sunday People that Cesc Fabregas has reportedly agreed to sign for Manchester United after a secret meeting with his agent Darren Dien and Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward.
The paper suggests that Woodward left the club’s Far East pre-season tour to put together a deal for the Barcelona midfielder and now his agent has told United he wants to leave the Nou Camp for Old Trafford this summer.
Arsenal may have the first option on any transfer for their former Spanish midfielder but reportedly the 26-year-old would turn down a possible return to the Emirates Stadium to sign instead of David Moyes’ side.
United have already seen three offers rejected with the highest reportedly over £30m but the departure of cancer-stricken manager Tito Vilanova has brought about a major issue to the Old Trafford club. New Barca boss Gerardo Martino doesn’t want to make his first act at the Nou Camp letting a highly-popular player leave and that could put the transfer on hold.
Frustrated United now hope that the player will voice his feelings to his new manager and may possibly submit a transfer request to force a move away from the club he loves. Moyes is prepared to wait until deadline day to sign his main transfer target as he looks to improve on the side that won the Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson last season.
