Barcelona rival Chelsea in pursuit of Brazilian defender

MarquinhosChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t happy with anything to do with their club so far this season and it appears their woes may continue into the New Year and the January transfer window.

Mundo Deportivo state Spanish giants Barcelona are incredibly keen on Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos and will go toe-to-toe with any opponents for his signature- which includes Chelsea, who’s interest was raised again last week.

The 21-year-old defender is unhappy in the French capital due to his lack of playing time, which sees him playing second-fiddle behind compatriots David Luiz and Thiago Silva. Considered a back-up player by PSG boss Laurent Blanc, Marquinhos could move in 2016.

Barcelona’s interest isn’t surprising due to their poor start to the season, whilst Chelsea retain interest from the summer; where they saw two bids rejected by the French champions.

However, it remains to be seen how Barcelona would finance such a deal after it emerged earlier today that the Catalan club could not afford to move for Celta Vigo ace Nolito, who now looks set to join Arsenal.
