The topic of conversation turns to goalkeepers in the Football Transfer Tavern, with Rob Draper of the Daily Mail reckoning Liverpool and Barcelona could strike a deal that would see them swap number ones.
Barcelona reportedly want to re-sign Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina to replace Victor Valdes, who announced last week he will not be renewing his contract. Reina spent the early part of his career at the Camp Nou before moving to Villarreal.
Liverpool themselves have been strongly linked with a move for Valdes, which means we could see both keepers trading places when the summer comes around.
Reina has had his name linked with a move away from Anfield for some time, after suffering with form and fitness over the past couple of seasons.
Having been at Anfield since the summer of 2005, there are those who believe he may fancy a change to reinvigorate his career. He is currently suffering with a double injury – a thigh problem as well as a broken nose sustained during last weekend’s defeat to old rivals Manchester United.
Valdes left Barca officials surprised by saying he would not sign an extension to his current deal which runs out in 2014, meaning YTito Vilanova’s side will look to recruit a new goalkeeper as early as June.
