The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been showing their delight as Martin Dubravka has given his first full interview since joining the club permanently from Sparta Prague. The 29-year-old ‘keeper joined the club on-loan in January and had a huge impact, looking calm and composed behind the Newcastle defence, contributing four clean sheets in his 12 appearances.
Martin Dúbravka on the Newcastle fans – and @worflags – and how they helped to make signing for the Magpies an easy decision.

For just £4 million, Dubravka could be one of the signings of the summer and it’s a testament to how good Rafa Benitez is as a manager that he spotted the shot-stopper and decided to bring him in January before securing his services permanently so early in the summer window, however, the fans will be hoping that the Slovakian is just the first of a number of signings who will be brought in to the club this summer.
The club has long been under the tyranny of Mike Ashley and the businessman has always been reluctant to pump money into the club, with little finances being made available and profits being taken from the club and put straight into the Sports Direct owners’ pockets instead of going back into St James Park. Although with Dubravka’s early signing, the fans are starting to gain hope that this summer could be the one where they splash the cash ad sign players that are worth getting excited about.
