Barkley in: Chelsea must now seal this deal to seriously frustrate Tottenham in the transfer market

The Chelsea supporters have been ridiculing the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern after news emerged that Ross Barkley is set to join The Blues this month.

In the summer transfer window of 2017, Ross Barkley turned down the opportunity to move to Stamford Bridge in a dramatic 11th-hour decision. From that moment on, it was fair to assume that Spurs were the favourites to land his signature, but that assumption has now been disproved after the Blues wrapped up a deal to land the midfielder.

The resident Lilywhites propping up the bar in the tavern have been bitterly disappointed by their club’s failure to beat their London-rivals to the England international’s signature.

However, the biggest disappointment may be yet to come for Tottenham Hotspur, as reports have also revealed that Chelsea are in the market for Leicester City’s Algerian ace Riyad Mahrez.

Despite coming close to catching Antonio Conte’s side last year, Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League, and their opening to the current campaign has served to further reinforce Chelsea’s dominance in London.

And the dominance Chelsea are currently exerting over Tottenham will only continue to grow if they once again beat their rivals to the signing of Mahrez this month.

Mahrez is exactly the sort of player that Pochettino’s side are crying out for right now, and his potential arrival, amid reports earlier in the season, at the club could prove to be the difference between qualification and non-qualification for the Champions League this season.

For that reason, Antonio Conte must do everything he can to scupper Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top-four this season by persuading Leicester’s crown jewel to move to West-London over North-London during the mid-season window.
