So, who has the best all-round squad in the premier league then? The answer, Tottenham Hotspur.
Maybe their first eleven isn’t as strong as say Manchester United or Chelsea’s but the strength in depth they possess is better than any other club in England.
A bench boasting the likes of Jermaine Jenas, Peter Crouch, Vedran Corluka, Carlo Cudicini, David Bentley, Niko Kranjcar and Roman Pavlyuchenko shows what a great team they have. Another of those is fifth choice centre back Sebastien Bassong.
Many believe he should be higher up the pecking order but ‘Arry see’s Michael Dawson, Ledley King, William Gallas and Younes Kaboul ahead of the Cameroon international. The only negativity is can he keep his players happy? In this case involving Bassong he can’t.
Bassong told skysports: “I want to play. If Tottenham don’t offer me that possibility then I could be driven to look elsewhere.”
Paris Saint Germain are among his admirers and he added: “I’ve always been a fan of this club, PSG, since I was small.”
A possible January move could be on the cards for the World Cup star who is desperate for regular football. Is he good enough to fight his way into the starting eleven or is a transfer away from the club his only option? Do Tottenham need to let him go?
With Kaboul’s suspension and injuries to King, Gallas and long-term absentee Jonathan Woodgate, can he establish himself in the team in the coming weeks?
