The Daily Mail are certainly providing Chelsea fans with some interesting gossip today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race for defender David Luiz.
The player have been linked with a host of top clubs over the last couple of seasons but seemed happy at Chelsea. But, the arrival of Jose Mourinho and doubts over the defender’s style of play and his compatibility with the Blues has seen speculation regarding his future mount.
It seemed that Bayern Munich and new manager Pep Guardiola were targeting the defender to strengthen the back four – the only area of his side that the former Barcelona manager was worried about heading into the new campaign yet now it seems that a bid from the Bavarian Giants will not be coming. This of course leaves Pep’s former club Barcelona as the leaders in the race and now it seems that the Catalan Giants will pounce for the Chelsea defender.
Jose Mourinho will demand big money for the defender who is tied to a long term contract and knows that even though he may not see Luiz as a key man in his side, to let him leave would mean a replacement had to be found and money coughed up for that. Barcelona are looking for someone who plays their style of football to come in and take over the mantle from ageing skipper Carles Puyol and feel Luiz is the perfect man to do so.
Will Barcelona land Luiz? Rate this rumour below.
