The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted with their side’s fine performance against Bournemouth on Sunday. The Reds ran riot against the Cherries, with Jurgen Klopp’s men very good value for their 4-0 win on the day.
In truth, a number of Liverpool players stood out. Dejan Lovren looked good at the back, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looked great through the middle, and Mo Salah was his usual destructive self.
One player that caught the attention of BBC Pundit Garth Crooks, though, was Philippe Coutinho. It was a remarkable performance from the Brazilian, and he earned a spot in Crooks’ Team of the Week as a result.
That wasn’t the only praise that he had for him, though, also stating: ” I have Coutinho neck and neck with De Bruyne, David Silva and Sergio Aguero for my player of the season”.
That’s certainly high praise for Coutinho, though it’s tough to disagree. The Brazilian has been simply sensational this term, and he’s well worthy of being amongst such esteemed company.
He has now bagged 5 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League this term, and that’s in addition to a further 5 goals and 2 assists in the Champions League. Any doubts that the fans in the Transfer Tavern had about his commitment have been firmly put to bed with his remarkable performances, and Crooks is clearly impressed.
Coutinho has been fantastic this season, but Crooks’ decision to dismiss Mohamed Salah from his player of the season discussion is a strange move. Salah has been every bit as good as Coutinho this term, and his 14 league goals are evidence of that.
That being said, you can’t take anything away from Coutinho. The Brazilian is simply sensational, and the Reds simply cannot afford to lose him in January.
