Unsurprisingly, Mohamed Salah has quickly emerged as a favourite of the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern. Since moving to Anfield from Roma over the summer, the Egyptian has bagged a remarkable 24 league goals, making him far and away the Reds most efficient goalscorer.
However, whilst he has clearly been very important this term, BBC Pundit Garth Crooks doesn’t think that he stands alone when it comes to the Reds’ most crucial players.
In his weekly column for the BBC, Crooks has named Mane in his Team of the Week, before noting: “The Senegal international has had to play second fiddle to Mohamed Salah for most of the season but that won’t bother the West African”.
Like Salah, Mane has been a regular at Anfield this term. Granted, his goalscoring tally of just 8 is far behind the Egyptian, but what he lacks in goals he more than makes up for in other aspects of his game.
Famed for his electric pace and dribbling, if Mane is playing well, Liverpool will – more often than not – impress collectively.
Indeed, whilst the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern think that friendly competition is important, they’re particularly happy with the fact that there is even a competition here. What’s more, to have two world-class attacking midfielders is one thing, but when you also add in the likes of Roberto Firmino, it’s clear that Jurgen Klopp has more than a few exciting attacking options.
It’s tough to differentiate these two. When they’re both at their best, they are just as good as one another, and whilst Salah has been more efficient in front of goal, you can’t take anything away from Mane.
Liverpool have a hugely important spell ahead of them both in Europe and the Premier League, and Klopp will need each of his players to impress.
Fortunately, given the fine form and quality of Mane and Salah – he won’t have too many concerns about them.
