Yes you read that correctly. The evergreen David Beckham may well be returning to the Premiership, this time at Everton. The deal, which would be a loan one and would be similar to Landon Donovan’s successful stint last season, would see Beckham rejoin David Moyes after playing alongside him at Preston.
Moyes has been after a solution to Everton’s right sided problem for some time now, and although has been courting Donovan’s services again, it seems that the possibility of Beckham continuing his good end to the MLS season by joining Everton would benefit both parties.
Moyes has stated that: “If he wanted to come back to the Premier League he would only need to phone me or Phil [Neville] and we would be here for him. He knows how to get hold of Phil and he knows how to get hold of me.”
So it seems, the path is now clear for Beckham to return to these shores and don a Premiership shirt that won’t be a Man Utd one. But is this the right move? Can Beckham still cut it at the highest level? Could he join someone better? Is this right for Everton, bearing in mind they wanted Landon Donovan? Is this right for Man Utd, bearing in mind that Beckham said he would never join another Premiership club?
Beckham’s last goal in the Premiership was a stunning free kick, at Goodison Park. And it would sell some shirts I suppose…
