Premiership Teams have been taking note of Anderlecht recently. Romelu Lukaku has already moved to Chelsea and Tom de Sutter may be on his way to Fulham. Now it seems Anderlecht look set to lose another of their stars, this time the lesser known Cheikhou Kouyaté.
Man City scouts were spotted at Anderlecht’s winter training camp, according to Belgian media outlet RTBF. They had hoped to watch the Senegalese midfielder in action against Werder Bremen, but these plans were scuppered when the payer had to come off injured.
Transfermarkt.co.uk values the player at £3.5 million, but Anderlecht would likely want double this in the face of City’s Millions.
Kouyaté can play Center Defence, Defensive Mid, or Central Mid, and City may see his defensive versatility filling the role of the likely departing Nedum Onouha.
Kouyaté has been a stalwart in the Anderlecht team in recent seasons, and his good performances have also drawn the attentions of Arsenal. Still City fans may rightly wonder why their club are targeting a relative unknown (except in Football Manager circles).
Is this a great scouting find or another unnecessary signing City set only to star in League cup matches?
