Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern could be facing a nightmare of a summer as a period of chaos could ensue.
The board have decided that they will not settle for less than an offer of £400million to sell the club, and according to a report in The Sun, could see Rafa Benitez’s future at St. James’ Park further unclear.
The Spaniard has made it clear that he would like to remain in the north-east with the Magpies, however, he has asked for clarity and guidance on the situation, whilst also hoping the club would have the necessary funds for transfers.
The report suggests that now Mike Ashley is not budging from his position until he receives what he wants, then Benitez could prepare to listen to offers from other clubs, as he is a man in demand with the amount of managerial turnaround happening this summer.
It seems like every summer, Newcastle go through the same thing with Benitez and his future, so our punters clad in black and white are used to such speculation. Certainly, they hope the Spaniard stays.
Benitez is a cult hero for many of the locals in the bar and they will be desperately disappointed to see him leave if he were offered a role elsewhere. The Spaniard guided Newcastle to a tenth-place finish this season in a year when many expected them to head back down to the Championship and would have been demanding the club provide him with financial resources to help improve and build on this year’s exploits.
Should Newcastle lose Benitez, with a number of clubs prepared to make him an offer, they could fall into deeper trouble and many of the punters will not be able to forgive the club’s hierarchy at all should their hero depart.
