In a sensational claim that will make Chelsea fans breathe a sigh of relief here at the Football Transfer Tavern, their interim manager Rafael Benitez has claimed he wants to manage Real Madrid according to the Daily Mail.
The Spaniard is hardly the most popular man at Stamford Bridge and after ill-advised comments during his reign at Liverpool about not only the fans but living legends like Frank Lampard, Bentiez was up against it in winning over the Blues faithful. Add to this the fact that the team under the self professed ‘tactician’ have hardly set the world alight and Rafa will be leaving at the end of the season.
Clearly forgetting what happened last time he took over a Jose Mourinho team – although if this is the case we are sure Marco Materezzi could remind him, Benitez now has his eye on Real Madrid.
He claimed: “I arrived at Real when I was 13 years old and I’m from Madrid.” Giving further explanation that will chill the hearts of Los Blancos fans he noted: “As a manager you always have your sweetheart. I have a link with the fans and they have treated me well. But I don’t want to get involved in speculation.”
Despite this, Benitez did claim that he wanted to help Chelsea progress this season and said he will “do everything” to make that happen. Given that there is very little for Chelsea to achieve now, that is not exactly a hard task.
