Benitez hints at Newcastle United talks after wonderful season in charge

Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be holding their breaths after the latest news that has rocked the world of football in the recent hours.

The news broke that Arsene Wenger has decided to call time on his 22-year reign at Arsenal in the morning of April 20, and speculation has continued to mount on who will be chosen to replace him at the beginning of the season.

One of the bookmakers’ favourites is Magpies boss Rafa Benitez, who has been working his magic with the Toon Army since joining them in 2016. Newcastle fans are desperate to keep the Spaniard at the helm and will be encouraged by the comments he has made about his future at St. James’ Park.

“It’s a massive club, but my position is now the same,” he told the Shields Gazette.

“We have games to play, and I want to make sure we concentrate on that. That’s it. I want to make sure we have a good team to play against Everton on Monday.

“The situation is very clear. When I decided to come here, I could see the potential of this massive club and the ambitions of the fans.

“I can feel this passion after two successful years here. I know the ambition of the fans and now I need to know the ideas of the club and whether we share the same ambitions.”

The Spaniard also revealed that he wants to discuss his future with the club as soon as the time is right, but is focusing his attention on the remaining games.

“I would like to do it as soon as possible, but I want to concentrate on the games at the same time,” he added.

Landlord’s Verdict

Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be delighted with the news that Benitez is planning to hold talks about his future at the Magpies, and will be hoping the club can come to an agreement to keep him with them for a lengthy period of time.
