Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been given a cause to celebrate with news one of their January arrivals has finally been able to get match action since joining the club.
Islam Slimani, who joined the Magpies on loan on transfer Deadline Day from Leicester City, has been struggling with a thigh injury and is yet to make his first appearance for his new club.
He had been left out of the club’s warm-weather training camp in Spain earlier in the month, however, he had still been called up into the Algeria international side for their friendlies against Tanzania and Iran.
Slimani sat out of the game against the African nation, however, he came on as a second-half substitute against the Middle East country and played 25 minutes, giving Rafa Benitez a much-needed injury boost, according to the Shields Gazette. Indeed, they even report that Benitez is hopeful he can be involved on Saturday.
Newcastle welcome Huddersfield Town to St. James’ Park on Saturday as both teams look to beat the drop from the Premier League and the possible availability of the striker will have pleased our Geordie locals!
The news of Slimani returning to action would have pleased Newcastle fans in the Tavern, especially with the crucial clash against the Terriers at the weekend. The Magpies faithful will be excited to see what he can finally bring to the team, almost two months after arriving from the Foxes.
