For the Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern, the January transfer window could make or break their side’s season. They’ve had a very disappointing spell in the Premier League, and at present, their Premier League safety is far from assured.
There are a few areas in the Newcastle squad that need improving, and one spot that most fans can agree needs immediate reinforcement it at left-back. Reports from Tutto Mercato Web, then, are exciting our resident Magpies.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Rafael Benitez has asked for more information on the availability of Roma defender Emerson Palmieri, with the Newcastle boss clearly seeking reinforcements in the role.
A left-back by trade, 23-year-old Palmieri moved to Roma in 2015 and has amassed 34 league appearances in that time.
An attacking defender, he’s fantastic with the ball at his feet, with his technique, passing and crossing all combining to make him quite the force down the left-hand side. What’s more, at 23-years-old, he still has years ahead of him in which he can improve and continue to hone his craft. Defensively he’s solid too, and so he’s certainly a worthy target for Newcastle.
Newcastle clearly need more depth in the defence, particularly at left-back.
Benitez had a tough time over the summer as he looked to bring in the targets that he wanted, and so scouting the players that he would like to bring in this early is a good decision.
Palmieri would certainly provide the cover that the Magpies need.
