Not even a ball has been kicked in the Premier League season and the news surrounding Newcastle isn't positive.

When the window started, Benitez would've been hoping that the club could sign multiple players to build upon last season's 10th place finish last season. So far though, Newcastle only have brought in five players, two of which - Dubravka and Kenedy - were at the club last season.

With the window quickly ticking away, the Magpies are dangerously at risk of going into the season with an understaffed squad. Rafa Benitez has even admitted that the club must bring in some more players before next Thursday. As it stands, it looks as though if there aren't any more players brought in, this might be Benitez's last season at the club - his contract runs out next season.

According to the Mirror, Salomon Rondon's release-clause has now increased to £25 million. The West Brom striker had been heavily linked with Newcastle over the last few weeks and could've had him for £16.5 million had they bid in July.

The Breakdown

As we all know, Mike Ashley isn't exactly keen on spending big money on players. While Rondon isn't the best striker Newcastle could've had, he was one player that would've filled a void in the wake of Mitrovic's departure.

With his release clause now increased, it seems that Newcastle have missed the chance to sign the West Brom man. Unless the club can work quickly, it looks as though the only new striker they'll bring in is Yoshinori Muto.
