The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping Rafa Benitez will make some key signings in the January transfer window.
Newcastle United began the season in brilliant form considering they were only promoted from the Championship this season, but their form has significantly declined in recent weeks and they now find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle. Away from the field, speculation concerning who will succeed Mike Ashley as Newcastle’s owner continues to persist with Amanda Staveley looking set to takeover in the very near future.
The Magpies faithful in the tavern are eager for negotiations to come to a swift conclusion so that the club can invest in some quality talent in the January transfer window.
Indeed, the supporters believe that their club’s investment in the mid-season window could make or break their season.
And according to reports in The Chronicle, Newcastle have already made a bid to sign Leicester City’s forgotten striker Islam Slimani on a six-month loan deal in January.
Considering Newcastle have desperately struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis so far this season, a move for Slimani would represent a wise piece of business from the North-East outfit.
So far this season, the Algerian has struggled to break into Leicester’s first-team with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Kelechi Iheanacho all above him in Claude Puel’s pecking order.
However, his status at Leicester by no means implies that he cannot make himself a success on Tyneside, and if anything, his omission from Puel’s first-team plans should provide him with plenty of motivation to prove himself in the Premier League.
Slimani has shown that he can be a real handful for defenders in the English top-flight and given the right opportunities at Newcastle, he could be the man to solve their goal-scoring crisis and fire them to safety this season.
