Benitez’s transfer decisions have cost Newcastle this season

Newcastle United have struggled to make things work in the current campaign as they currently sit in the relegation places.

The Magpies will definitely need to seek improvements if they are to make it out of trouble in the current campaign as they’ve looked way off the pace so far. Indeed, Rafa Benitez hasn’t been able to secure the positive results that he would have hoped for, which has left his side in a worrying position.

Indeed, the Spaniard didn’t exactly make the best moves on the transfer front during the summer window, and this has been evident in Newcastle’s performances so far this season.

Therefore, here’s a look at TWO of Benitez’s biggest blunders…

Failing to secure enough firepower in attack

Newcastle United secured the services of Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto from Mainz 05 and Salomon Rondon on loan from West Bromwich during the summer transfer window.

However, neither of the forwards are going to guarantee you a heap of goals over the course of a season, so the Magpies have arguably drafted in what they already have in the form of Ayoze Perez and Joselu, attacking players that can only offer a maximum of around five goals.

Defensive vulnerability

The Magpies have looked vulnerable in defence in the current campaign as one of their major downfalls and the reason behind their poor start to proceedings.

Indeed, the Spaniard is still yet to identify his best central defensive pairing as he continues to try and test a number of different combinations.

Sadly, bringing in Federico Fernandez hasn’t reaped any benefits for the Premier League club so far this season as he offers nothing more than Ciaran Clark, who has struggled just as much himself.
