Manchester City will be desperate to build a healthy first leg lead over FC Schalke on Wednesday night in the Champions League, with away goals proving crucial.
The Citizens are going strong in domestic competitions and in Europe in the current campaign, with supporters expecting at least one piece of silverware.
However, it appears as if one of the club’s stars is being eyed, as according to Calciomercato (via Caught Offside), Benjamin Mendy is on Real Madrid’s shortlist of players to potentially replace Marcelo.
Real Madrid have reportedly compiled a five-man transfer shortlist consisting of options to replace Marcelo at left-back, which includes Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy.
Indeed, the Frenchman has spent most of the current campaign out injured with the likes of Danilo and Oleksandr Zinchenko filling in for him.
It remains to be seen as to whether City would let him go as City have struggled down the left-hand side at times and he’d arguably be Pep Guardiola’s first-choice left-back.
Benjamin Mendy, who is valued at £40.5 million (by Transfermarkt), is arguably one of the best left-backs in the Premier League but he just hasn’t been able to enjoy regular minutes this season due to injury.
Of course, the Citizens will be worried that Mendy is being eyed as a potential replacement for Marcelo ahead of the summer transfer window, as left-back has been a problem position for them this season.
