Reports are emerging this morning that Tottenham will swap David Bentley for Blackburn Rovers’ Christopher Samba.
The deal seems to make sense for all parties as Bentley would get the first team action that he so badly craves (and probably deserves given his talent), and would return to comfortable surroundings where he spent three decent seasons. Spurs would offload an unwanted squad member and bring in a reliable Premiership defender, a physically imposing centre back, who can captain a team and score the odd screamer.
And Christopher Samba will get his chance at the bigtime, choosing Spurs over Liverpool and Arsenal, well done to him.
But are Blackburn the only ones to suffer? Samba is valued at £8 million and was brilliant under Big Sam so should they want for him than just Bentley? And can Steve Kean (or whoever Venky’s decide will be in charge next season) get the best out of Bentley, with a gaping hole in his own back four?
