Berbatov Exit Inevitable As Fergie Negotiates £35M Replacement

Javi Martinez and Fernando LlorenteUnited fans prevail! Your years of waiting for Dimitar Berbatov to come good are over. It looks like Fergie is replacing him.

According to a report in AS, Sir Alex is looking at two Athletic Bilbao players, namely, messers Fernando Llorente and Javi Martinez.

Spanish International Llorente is “all the rave” at the moment, with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich said to be interested in his services. His form this season is in peak condition too, with 9 goals in 12 games.

Javi Martinez would complete the package with Llorente. The 22 year old has a wealth of La Liga experience having moved to Bilbao for £5million from Osasuna at only 17. He’s since completed 135 league appearances and bagged himself 15 goals in the process. He’s described as a midfield “engine room” and much like Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal, is often cited as the hub of the team.

It makes sense really. Berbatov is out of form and Fergie can’t rely soley on Javier Hernandez to deliver the goods every week, he’s far too young to carry such a burden. Former Bordeaux forward Obertan is still yet to score in a United shirt and Macheda has only managed 1 goal this season. Oh and Wayne Rooney, well, that’s a completely different kettle of fish altogether right now.

United need another out and out finisher, like Van Nistlerooy if you will, just to make sure that for all their hard work from defence to midfield, that the ball will end up in the net in attack.  Llorente can do that.

But where would Martinez fit in? Scholes is getting older and he can’t play forever. That would only really leave you with Carrick and Fletcher, neither of which are really associated with goal getting. Javi would work to break down opposition play and act as the box to box midfielder that has defined Paul Scholes throughout his career.

The Manchester club do face stiff competition though, European finallists Bayern Munich are also very keen on the pair and Spanish giants Real have been following Llorente’s progress in particular very closely for a long time. A fee of roughly £35million could see the pair arrive at Old Trafford in the near future. Watch this space.

If Berbatov does leave Manchester I certainly know what I’d like to see him leave behind! Elena Shtilianov is Berba’s rather raunchy missus – click to view the gallery below.
