Despite only making one significant signing in this summer’s transfer window, Manchester City will certainly fancy their chances going into the new season.
And one player to have echoed that thought is Bernardo Silva.
The £45m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Portugal international is not too bothered with the business rival Premier League clubs have done and is confident that Manchester City have enough at their disposal to have another successful campaign.
Speaking to CityTV (quotes via Manchester Evening News), Bernardo said: “We’re looking forward to doing even better [than the previous season]. Everyone is very hungry to get more titles and to keep winning. You can feel everyone is working very hard to start well.”
And the former Monaco man is correct to think his side can do something special again this campaign.
While manager Pep Guardiola would have liked to bring in a defensive midfielder, Manchester City still have a superior squad compared to their rivals.
Liverpool have done some good work in the recently concluded transfer window by bringing in the likes goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Fabinho, while Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho could prove to be two very astute acquisitions for Chelsea.
But Manchester City’s starting XI and the depth they have in general means Liverpool, Chelsea and the rest of England’s elite face an uphill task of not only trying to snatch the Citizens’ crown, but also stopping an era of dominance taking place at the Etihad.
No team has managed to win back-to-back Premier League titles since Manchester United back in 2008/09, but their city rivals have all the tools to change that.
