‘Best CB in the world’, ‘Make this happen’ – Excited Man City fans demand January signing on Twitter

The Manchester City fans are hoping Pep Guardiola will bring another central defender to the Etihad this month.

After spending more than 5 weeks on the sidelines through injury, John Stones returned to City’s starting eleven last night alongside Nicolas Otamendi in central defence. Stones was wisely replaced by Guardiola in the 67th minute, once City were 3 goals in-front and seemingly destined for three points against the travelling Hornets. The 23-year-olds return was one of the highlights of the evening for City, as his calming influence and understanding with Otamendi has often been missed during his absence of late.

However, despite Stones’ return to first-team football, it appears that City are still in the market for another central defender this month, due to the unreliable nature of Kompany’s fitness and concerns over Mangala’s credentials to reach the standard expected at the club.

According to reports in The Independent last week, City have identified Inigo Martinez and Jonny Evans as two of their primary transfer targets this month.

But now it appears City have focussed their interest on a target of a much higher calibre, as the French newspaper L’Equipe (via The Mirror) have reported that City have held discussions with FC Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti regarding a potential move to The Etihad.

And judging by the response from The Citizens on Twitter, the supporters would be delighted to see the highly-rated French international move to Manchester this month.

Here’s what the City fans have had to say about a potential move for Umtiti…
