‘Best player on the pitch’, ‘Dominated’ – Liverpool fans had a lot of praise for one man in particular after Everton draw

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were upset with how their side’s clash with Everton ended. One of the most historic rivalries in England, the Merseyside derby was being built up in the pub all week long, and it didn’t disappoint. Though not a classic, the game had everything that our landlord expected; goals, confrontations, excitement and drama.

Though the game ended in a poor way for Liverpool, with Wayne Rooney scoring a penalty to secure a draw for the Toffees, there were more than a few positive takeaways from the game for Liverpool. For one, Mo Salah continued his fine form in the attack, with yet another goal, whilst Jurgen Klopp will have been impressed with the fine performance of his defence.

In particular, young Joe Gomez was a particular highlight at the back. At 20-years-old, Gomez has quickly cemented himself as one of Liverpool’s most talented defensive players, and he was a star for the Reds at the weekend.

Delivering a calm, composed and influential performance from the back, he impressed our landlord, and the Liverpool fans over on Reddit were pretty pleased too.

Taking to the site to discuss the fine performance, it’s fair to say that they are delighted with their new defensive hero…
