‘Best player on the pitch’ – Everton fans heap praise on one man following Brighton draw

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern were left to bemoan another lacklustre display from their side in the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Brighton, a result which leaves our resident Evertonians with more doubts over the capabilities of under-fire manager Ronald Koeman.

The Merseyside outfit went into their clash at the AMEX Stadium on Sunday having won just two of their opening seven Premier League matches, and looked set for a fourth defeat of the campaign yesterday when Anthony Knockaert gave Chris Hughton’s side an 82nd minute lead.

However, defender Bruno elbowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin late on to give the Merseyside outfit a penalty, from which Wayne Rooney stepped up to bag his third of the season and Everton’s fifth in the league, persevering them a point from their trip to the south coast.

Nonetheless, the pressure firmly remains on manager Koeman after another below-par display, yet one man who has received plaudits on Twitter from Evertonians is youngster Nikola Vlasic.

The 20-year-old midfielder made the move to Goodison Park during the summer after a seven-year association with Hajduk Split, and has since shown much promise in the blue of Everton, with another fine performance at Brighton indicative of the Croatia international’s huge potential.
