Tottenham fans are still confident of securing a top four finish this season, especially if Harry Kane continues scoring goals at the rate in which he currently is.

England's newest international fired a Premier League hat trick last time out to take his tally for the season to 29 in all competitions, as Mauricio Pochettinio's side recovered from a dismal performance against Manchester United to beat Leicester 4-3.

There is no doubt the Argentine is in the early stages of his rebuilding process at White Hart Lane, with Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane having often carried the side this season.

There is still some way to go if Tottenham are to get to the level they were at just a few years ago, and manage to welcome Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.

Here we have looked back at some of the best players to have performed for Spurs in the past 15 years, and identified the Tottenham XI of the 21st century.

Hugo Lloris

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - Barclays Premier League

No, Heurleho Gomes doesn't quite make the cut.

Instead, current number one Hugo Lloris is the man between the sticks, ahead of the likes of Brad Freidel and Paul Robinson.

The France captain has established himself as one of Europe's best goalkeepers since signing from Lyon in the summer of 2012, and is one of the few natural leaders in the current Tottenham squad.

Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker edges out Stephen Carr in the battle for the right back squad, but only when he is at his best.

Walker has struggled for consistency over the past couple of seasons, but prior to that he appeared as if he was destined to make the position his own at both club and international level.

The fact he has managed a winner in a north London derby also sees him pip former Ireland international Carr to the starting spot.

Ledley King

Ledley King

The devestating thing for Tottenham supporters and King himself is the struggles the former Tottenham skipper had with injury.

In the end it lead to an early retirement, but when fully fit - there were few better Premier League defenders than King.

It was sad to see his career finish prematurely, as it will always be a case of wondering what might have been for Spurs had he been fit on a regular basis.

Jan Vertonghen

Fiorentina v Tottenham Hotspur - UEFA Europa League Second Round Second Leg

The Belgian pips the likes of Michael Dawson, Jonathan Woodgate and Younes Kaboul to the second starting centre back spot, having established himself as Tottenham's best defender since his arrival from Ajax in the summer of 2012.

Vertonghen has often filled in at left back during his time at White Hart Lane, but remains a classy centre back who is set to remain key to their hopes of breaking back into the top four in the future.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Assou-Ekotto

The Cameroon international established himself as one of the most popular Tottenham players of the Premier League era, as much for his personality off the pitch as his performances on it.

Assou Ekotto was the first choice left back during the spell in which Harry Redknapp's side were thrilling the country with exciting attacking football, often defending superbly to allow a certain someone to cause havoc down the left hand side going forward.

He will also be remembered fondly for a truly spectacular strike in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in 2009.

Aaron Lennon

Aaron Lennon

Whilst the last 18 months of his Tottenham career were underwhelming, Aaron Lennon deserves the spot on the rigth hand side for the way in which he played during the Harry Redknapp era.

Tottenham broke into the top four during that spell, and Lennon was an integral part of the attacking system Redknapp deployed.

His form was so good, he went into the 2010 World Cup as England's first choice right winger, whilst he also enjoyed an excellent season during Andre Villas-Boas' only full term in charge.

Luka Modric

Luka Modric - CM

The Croatian signed for Tottenham in 2008, and signalled the beginning of another era in terms of Spurs challenging the top sides.

Modric was an integral part of the new Tottenham, dictating the play in the middle of the park, classy on the ball and able to find a killer pass seemingly at will.

He also had the ability to score stunning goals - perhaps not as often as he should have done - but never the less he remained a class act in his four years at the club.

The fact Real Madrid came calling and Tottenham made £30 million from his sale speaks volumes about the quality he gave to the team.

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen

The Dane pips Rafael van der Vaart to the second midfield role alongside Modric, having established himself as a Tottenham star since his arrival in the summer of 2013.

Eriksen has carried Spurs often since signing from Ajax, and remains key to their top four challenge this term alongisde Kane.

The exciting thing for Tottenham fans, is that he is still only 23 and has plenty of time on his side to get even better, whilst he is already considered one of the best set piece takers in the country.

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale

This one is a no brainer.

Even though Tottenham recouped £86 million for Gareth Bale, there is surely not a Tottenham fan who wouldn't take him back for the same price.

Bale was sensational for Spurs, and is arguably one of the club's all-time greats, with his performances in the Champions League under Harry Redknapp arguably the moments in which a star was born.

Any Tottenham fan would bite your arm off to have him back at White Hart Lane, although moneybags Manchester United and Chelsea are the favourites to sign him should he return to the Premier League.

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov

He may have left the club for a move to Manchester United, but anyone who says they would not have Berbatov back in his prime is telling a lie.

The Bulgarian forward may have looked downright lazy at times but would do what all top forwards did. Pop up with a goal.

Even finding himself out of favour at Old Trafford did not stop him banging in the goals.

The vision and trickery of the Bulgarian is missed to this day at White Hart Lane, whilst he was a key part of the side that won the League Cup in 2008 - whilst he also earnt the club £30million through his sale.

Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe

Tottenham fans have fallen in love with Harry Kane this season, having watched the local lad fire 29 goals in all competitions.

Yet Kane has one good season under his belt, whilst Jermain Defoe scored goals consistently in the Premier League season upon season.

He pips the likes of Kane, Robbie Keane and Teddy Sheringham to the forward's position, having scored over 100 league goals in two spells at White Hart Lane.
