Chelsea have struggled over the last few weeks, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately looking for a few positives. In truth, particularly in the Premier League, there has been very little to celebrate for a few weeks now, and it’s leaving the Blues feeling rather glum. They’re desperately hoping that they’re given something to smile about on Saturday afternoon.
Fortunately, Antonio Conte has provided some respite for the Blues in the lead-up to their clash with Watford, with the Italian revealing that summer signing Danny Drinkwater is edging closer to full fitness. Significantly, he is said to have begun taking part in regular training sessions, which is a massive boost for the Blues.

Though Drinkwater is not yet featuring heavily in sessions, it does appear as though he is edging closer towards that end, and resultantly, it seems likely that he is on course for a first-team return sooner, rather than later. He has yet to play for Chelsea this season, of course, and so his return can’t come soon enough.
It’s a great time for him to return, too, given how few options Antonio Conte has in the middle of the park at present. He recently confirmed that both David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko are not fully fit, whilst N’Golo Kante is also unavailable. In these circumstances, Drinkwater is likely to get significant game time.
Drinkwater isn’t expected to be a starter at Chelsea, but given who Conte currently has available, or more specifically who he doesn’t, it seems likely that the Englishman will get a run of games if he is available over the next week or two.
It remains to be seen when he will return, but he is certainly edging closer.
