The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a flurry of loans to be announced over the coming weeks. The World Cup seems to have delayed all proceedings at Stamford Bridge this summer, but things appear to be picking up the pace.
Chelsea are famed for sending so many players out on loan, and that’s only been going up in recent years. The Blues keep on snapping up top young talent, and when combined with their impressive homegrown system, the results are quite incredible to see.
As mentioned, not many loan deals have been announced yet, but on Wednesday, the Blues confirmed one pretty major move regarding one of their most talented youngsters.
Chelsea have confirmed on Twitter that Reece James, who picked up the Academy Player of the Year award at Chelsea last season, has been sent out on loan to Ipswich ahead of next season. A defender by trade, he was very solid for the Blues’ developmental system last term, and it’s clear that he has a very bright future. He has also signed a new four-year deal.
Congratulations, and good luck Reece! https://t.co/4GBMSSYd85

Naturally, ever the vocal fanbase, Chelsea fans have been quick to respond over on Twitter to the news, and they’re saying quite a few things.
As you can see below, responses are varied, though most are viewing it as a positive outcome. Two fans have looked at Chelsea’s current right-back options – notably Davide Zappacosta and Victor Moses – and noted that James may be a better choice than both. Meanwhile, some are touting it as a masterclass from Marina Granovskaia, whilst some are pleased with the deal provided that it isn’t followed by more major young departures. Others are simply just happy that the move is done.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
