According to various sources in the British media, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton and Juventus are among the teams battling it out for the signature of Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega.
The Colombian striker’s deal at Wigan runs out next summer and he has been issued with an ultimatum by Wigan to sort out his future before the transfer window re-opens in January.
The 26 year-old has been reluctant to pledge his future to Wigan as they look increasingly likely to be involved in another relegation battle this season. The club are currently on a barren run of 8 consecutive defeats in the Premier League.
Rodallega will be available on a Bosman next summer, which is why Wigan are prepared to listen to offers for their star striker in January in order to recoup some funds from his sale.
Wigan’s Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson ideally wants Rodallega to decide his future within the next six weeks. He said: ”We want it resolved before the January window. Hugo’s still assessing his options but we hope he will stay.”
Rodallega is an attractive option for other Premier League teams as he will be available at a cut price deal of less than £10 million. The Colombian isn’t a prolific goalscorer, but his record in England isn’t the worst, scoring 22 goals in 98 games.
But if he moves on to a bigger club he should be able to improve his goalscoring ratio and this could be an opportunity he may not let pass.
